I ordered a Xanura CTX35 and try to create my own application to control my Xanura modules. I tried to checkout the possibilities of the CTX and used the CTX test software form the Xanura website (I downloaded it a while ago, so i don't know if it is still there). This software can send commands and query the CTX.
When i use it i only see information from devices with housecode A. I can only send commands to modules with housecode A.
When i go through the topics in this forum i get the impression the CTX35 can be used for alle housecodes. Is this correct? Somebody any idea what may be wrong with my test? Am i missing some sort of setting?
Thanks! I'm looking forward joining this group of domotica experts!

Robert,
I have several Xanura modules working in my house. I use several housecodes for them. I grouped the modules and use also housecodes other then "A". The modules are working fine. I even have a CIX (Oeps...) connected which runs some macro's etc. I use a SFX filter to prevent problems with others outside my house. All working fine, so i don't think something is wrong with my Xanura installation.
At this moment i would like to use a CTX35 to create my own controller. I intend to develop a bridge between X10 and the outside world using embedded modules, webservices, C#, .NET Micro Framework, etc. but more on that later. For now i'm trying to write a software module in C# with Visual Studio that uses the CTX35 to send commands. To understand the serial protocol the CTX35 uses, i started testing the CTX with the test tool mentioned before (after reading the documentation). I think i understand the protocol, but it isn't working like i expected it to do.
I can send a command like "A01A01 AONAON" and my module with address A01 reacts. Same for A2. But when is send "L03L03 LONLON" nothing is happening. I seems like the CTX is filtering the X10 commands and only shows commands with housecode A. Is there a dipswitch inside the CTX or a setting that causes this behavior.
When is query the CTX i get a list of X10 commands, but i see only commands from modules with housecode A. Commands with other housecodes are not shown. I'm sure there were some X10 commands with other housecodes sent.
Are you aware of this kind of behavior of the CTX35 and what to do with it?

Sorry Gerben,
i just *had* to ask about the other housecodes, didn't know where you were standing in terms of experience with it all. I won't ask those kind of questions anymore.[:I]
AFAIK there is no dip-switch nor any other way of limiting the CTX35 to a single housecode.
Assuming you're using the Xanura test tool, have a look at the following things:
- You're not working with the CTX35 in a room with fluorescent lights switched on by any chance? Or any other noise-generators that prevent commands from the rest of your house arriving at the CTX35?
You could try another wall outlet by using a long extension cable to connect the CTX to your house at other places. Send and query again. Same results?
- What responses do you get back from the CTX35? Are they all ok? And remember, commands that the CTX35 has succesfully put on the powerline, will be echoed. So beware of that, when you draw conclusions on what you see coming in.
- Reprogram your current A01 module to a different housecode. Does this module stop working now too?
One little story about what i still experience in my own house:
I have a module with address A06. Sending it an ON always works, sending OFF almost never, i know this is caused by noise.
So my conclusion is that some commands are more 'vulnerable' to noise than others. (?)
Just keep it in mind...
I think it's noise.

Hello Robert,
Thanks for your respons and input on my problems. No offence on your first question. I'm new on this forum, although i follow the topics for quite some time.
Reading your comments and thoughts on this problems, i think you could be right. It could be noise. I have the CTX35 connected in my home office, in which i have several PC's, printers, etc. installed. I will trie to connect the CTX to the powerline with a long extension cable and test some different places in the house.
So, i will have something to do this weekend!
Thanks for your input on this.

Robert,
I couldn't wait till the weekend. When i arrived home i tried to test the CTX35 with a long cable and used a wall outlet next to the SFX.
All modules (and all housecodes) can be reached. The test software is working okay. It was a noise problem as you mentioned.
Thanks again for your suggestions.

Try to put the CTX35 in the fusebox closet for best result.
CTX35
Haha, everything else has to wait when there's domotica-stuff to do; where have i seen that before [:D]
And Pieter is right, the fuse box is the best location for the CTX35.
