Detection from motorcar with X10

Post by Verkenner »

Friends,

I wanted to use RFID from Cheapertronics to detect my motorcar in my garage ( http://www.cheapertronics.com/products. ... gory_id=57 ).
But the transmitters are out of stock.

Does anybody know how to detect a motorcar in my Homeseer2.
(RFXCOM is very expensive ).

Thank for help.

You can use a old BT phone in your car and BT receiver on your Homeseer machine..

BT phone 20 Euro
BT Receiver 10 Euro
BT plugin $30 (20 euro)

With the current phone you will only know if the phone is in the range of your house...not your car.

Mount an X10 DS90 door sensor in the car.
Connect a relay to the switched 12 V system in your car and as soon as the engine is stopped or started the DS90 will be activated.
Or install the DS90 with the reed contact on the drivers door.

There are cheap car parking sensors basis on an ultrasoon or laser sensor mounted on the ceiling or wall in the garage and pointing to the car ......if you approach the end of the garage a kind of traffic light will tell you when to stop. This will be an additional functionality.
I saw them at Lidl (Euro 10) and Gamma has one set (Elro based Euro 18) You can modify the signal light like placing it on top of the light sensor of a X10 MS13 sensor .......

Wondering what distance you need to detect an RFID tag ... likely not more than a couple of centimeters? so how useful will it be for this kind op application .... ?

Perhaps I can use a smokedetection to indentify my old dieselmotorcar. ;-)
But how to indentify the brandnew benzin-bolide from my wife? ;-)

Anyway, you sent mee nice idea's. THANKS !!
I like to mount a DS90 mounted in every car. I will try. Gives direct X10 signals.

But using RF or Infrared is still an option.

That will certainly work but it might be a little slow. Mine takes around 20-30 seconds to respond to a nearby cigarette.

Do you want it to detect <i>your</i> car in the garage or do you want it to work with <i>any</i> car in the garage?

Perhaps this might be a use for Bluetooth. If your phone is within range AND has the correct Bluetooth PIN...

Cheers, Steve

Bluetooth is what I would love to use for something like that.. Unfortunately I'm running HS2 in a VMWare Win2k Server. I have never been able to get bluetooth running in that VMWare machine.. (Any ideas?)

If you have a BT USB stick it will run.
I'm also going to do that.

My final goal is to sue the Belkin remote USB hub.

Nice device...price is only a bit high.
I have few old phones at home that i don't use anymore all with BT.

My only problem is to find a good working remote USB hub that will work with Vmware.

The Digit Usb anywhere will work fine...only the price is high...+/- 300 euro

I have not had the chance to connect this to my pc since i have homeseer on win2k aswell.. but on my windows vista machine downstairs it works like a charm (http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=1026)

it gets around 3 to 4 wanadoo live boxes, and i know this must be at least a couple of houses away..
