@wifi: yes that is my setup, and my Router has some gigabyte LAN connections to 4 or 5.

I have the G version with wireless access also.

I agree with Lennart. All that little savings will reduce your total power consumption.
In my example of replacing the old 3Com switch
I'm saving 70 Kwh per year extra. That's not so much..but still.
I have a long way to go...started with 380 Watt in standby hours now on 275 watt..

Ok I think the above is old one?
This is the green version
Checked my current switches:
Edimax 8 ports Gigabit 7.9 watt
Linksys 8 ports Gigabit 7.8 watt

There is a 16 port version as well

@Pieter,
Yes, they have a 16-port version (DGS-1016D) as well, also labeled "Green Ethernet". That's the one pointed out by Chak in the first place (
http://www.dlink.com/products/?sec=0&pid=337).
But according to the datasheet that one is using 21 Watt (!). On the other hand, the datasheets of the DGS-1008D and DGS-1005D are also listing a higher power consumption than is actually the case (6W and 3W), but still, the listed and actual power consumption per port will probably be higher for the DGS-1016D.
See:

@Lennart: Right according to the specs you are better of with 2 x 8 port switch, strange?
@Chak: How many ports are active while consuming 2.x watt, I guess only a couple?
@Wifi: Got a little bit of topic

But you some more info, let us know what you do

Do you have ADSL or Cable ? I'm using CISCO 87x series routers with an integrated switch. I have two of them (two internet connections) which connect back into my core switch. (L2/L3) This runs flawless now for several months now.

no problem, you can use a model which has a WAN ethernet port. CISCO871-SEC-K9 or CISCO871-K9 depending on the features you require (IPV6 advanced routing etc)

Cisco is professional stuff though known to be very power consuming.
can you measure your router switches
I have to ADSL lines on my Vigor Dual Wan Router, But thinking about changing 1 to cable.
I still have a ISDN line witch I wanna ditch, but can't do it without ditching the ADSL on it first [:(!]
@Wifi: Im jealous Fiber! I think it's taking a long time before we get fiber to home in our region. Lucky the cablespeeds are even getting faster the fiber. So there will still be some good competition.
