Hello,

I hope this is not a stupid beginner problem

I've bought the OTGW Kit from Nodo Shop, it poweres on and also the Ethernet Module works fine.
The B-LED flashs periodically and the Monitoring Software can connect to the Gateway.
After connecting the Boiler i can see some communication in the Log but no useful information, i think this should be ok without the thermostat?

And now the problem starts, after connecting the thermostat to the OTGW the B-Led stops flashing. The Thermostat also doesnt power on and we cant see any communication in the log.
We have an Atag E22S boiler and an ATAG BrainZ RSC Thermostat.
Also i have 4.89V between the USB Shield and F1 (5V without anything connected)

Something you may have in common with the boiler: Providing no useful information

Without showing the log, it is impossible to tell whether the boiler actually provided no (useful) information, or you have a different concept of what is useful information. Without a thermostat, there should already be data coming from the boiler regarding water temperature, heating status, etc.

When a thermostat is connected, you should get a message saying "Thermostat connected". I suppose you did, otherwise the B-LED wouldn't stop flashing. At that point the thermostat should start sending messages, at least once every second. If you see nothing in the log, you may have to adjust the reference voltage. On may thermostats, the display doesn't come on until it has received a first response.

If you recently bought the OTGW kit from the Nodo shop, you should have a revision 2.5 or later. Those run on 3.3V, which makes the supply voltage much less critical.

Ok i'm very sorry, maybe I'll do better now than the boiler

I'm one step further now.
The thermostat turns on and off continuous (and shows nothing on the screen) and after playing with the voltage the log shows error 1 and 3 alternately. (see attachments)

btw. there is unhappily no information like water temperature, heating status, etc from the boiler.

For now the screen shots will do. But for future reference: When I ask for a log, I mean a proper log file that you create by going to Options -> Logging. Configure the Logfile section and enable it. Preferably leave the "Include details of bit fields" option off. It only makes the log larger, but doesn't provide any additional information. If it's a small log, you can copy&paste the text as a code block into a message you post here. In case of a larger log, compress the file (gzip, zip) and attach it to the message.

You didn't provide context with your screen shots. Is the second one supposed to be taken without a thermostat connected? In that case it is strange that the OTGW frequently reports "Thermostat connected". Also strange are the "Error 01" reports. By default error 01 is disabled. Did you enable it for a reason? If not, go to Options -> Settings and activate the "Ignore multiple mid-bit transitions" option. Hopefully that will help to receive the responses from the boiler.

If problems persist after changing the setting mentioned above, my next suggestion is to load the diagnostic firmware. Connect the boiler and thermostat, and run test #5. Once a good reference voltage setting has been determined, you can run tests #2 and #3.

If you fail to find a good reference voltage setting, disconnect the thermostat and run tests #5 and #3 again. The results of those tests will help to determine the next steps for solving the issue.

OK, without the thermostat everything works fine after an cold start of the boiler.
The monitoring software gets data like outside temperature etc...
Playing with the reference voltage does not make a big difference.

At the moment of connecting the thermostat the communication is gone. Also after an cold start of the boiler and with every level of reference voltage.

With the diagnostic firmware and the thermostat connected i can absolutely get no result of test #2 and #3, with every voltage level from 0-9.
The result of Test #3 witout the thermostat connected i'll post later.

Edit: i forgot to mention that in monitoring mode the thermostat does power on, but keeps in boot screen.

The boiler interface already started working. So test #3 isn't very interesting anymore.

Test #5 (without thermostat) shows 2.9V on pin AN0, which roughly translates to 23V on the thermostat interface. That's correct. With the thermostat connected, the voltage drops to 0.6V, or 4.8V externally. That's a proper low level Opentherm signal. The issue is that the signal shouldn't stay low all the time. The thermostat is supposed to start sending messages. There's no evidence it does that.

Does your thermostat work when connected directly to the boiler? Someone has uploaded a log file for an Atag BrainZ RSC V3.0 to the equipment matrix. So, in principle, the thermostat can work with the OTGW. Please confirm that it definitely is a BrainZ thermostat, not a BrainQ.

yes of course, this thermostat is working without any problems when it is directly connected.
After some research in the internet with the product number (see attachment) you are probably right. Its a BrainQ.
Is this a show stopper?

If I understand the manual correctly, the BrainZ uses the OpenTherm protocol, while the BrainQ uses a proprietary (modbus) protocol Atag calls T2B. The OTGW only works with OpenTherm. So, unfortunately, a BrainQ thermostat cannot be used with the OTGW. Unless Atag has a converter.
