SAIX12 and a "Hotel schakeling"

Is it possible to use a SAIX12 for a hotel schakeling, and if so how?

It looks like the SAIX12 can full fill all my needs. The wiring I have in my house cannot be changed neither can I add addtional wires so I am thinking of placing the module in the light fixture. There's only one "but", the SAIX12 is about 85 euro's. Are there any cheaper alternatives available?

Up to now I have not seen any modules that allow the switch wires to be directly connected to mains power.

You need 2 old SAIX' to do that. One you use just as Switch (input only), and the other as Switch + Actuator (input and output). The advantage of this is that you don't need the two switches to be pre-wired with double switching (black) wires (like you would have without X10, and as can be seen in the figure in the original post). With the new SAIX12 you can use existing double wiring to your advantage. Of course, in case you don't have the double wiring you can still connect two SAIX12s the 'old-fashoined' way.

Pieter is right, you can also use an AIX instead of the first 'old' SAIX. But the price difference is not that great and the SAIX has as advantage that it also has a switchable output that you may still make use of for some other purpose. What I mean is that you can take advantage of the fact that every SAIX (old or new) has 2 inputs and one output. So if you combine them in a smart manner, you can build two hotelswitches (i.e. 2 independently switch lightsources, both operated from two locations) or one hotelswitch plus a normal switch or whatever you like/need with just the two SAIXs. I actually use it like that and it works quite nice.

Pieter and others, thanks for your input.

I am investigating an other alternative using a simple one channel micro module like the S2263 Micromodule one-Lamp (38 euros). The plan is to fit the module in the light fixture and use the switch powerline to drive a (solid state) relay that on it's turn opens and closes the switch wires on the micro module. I have to implement a relay because the wires cannot be connected to mains directly.

Any reason why not to take this approach?
