variable ceiling fan speed like lamp modules.

here's a situation.
my ceiling fan is those pull string type of 1,2 or 3 speed to select from.

I'm thinking of setting the fan speed to 3 and control it like a lamp module of brighter and dimmer. is it possible?

I bought a spare lamp appliance module 300ws.
it works if i set the fan to speed2.
but if i set the fan to speed3. the fan just hums and turns very slowly.

anyone knows how to solve this?

ah.. i found out the reason. the lamp module uses PWM to control the brightness.

states instead of using the PWM to control, it uses 3 different capacitors to control the fan speed.
