I can imagine that people get lost what to order due to the large number of options.
Starting point is: what would you like to receive or to control now or in the future.
The most used options for European users are:
- Receiving of 433.92MHz remotes, sensors, switches like there are: X10, KlikAanKlikUit, Chacon, HomeEasy, DomiaLite, Nexa, BBSB, Digimax, Oregon Scientific, RFXSensor, RFXMeter.
- Receiving of 868.95MHz Visonic security sensors.
- Control of 433.92MHz RF devices like: KlikAanKlikUit, Chacon, HomeEasy, DomiaLite, Nexa, BBSB, Harrison curtains, X10 alarm panel .
The most used options for US users are:
- Receiving of 433.92MHz sensors like: Oregon Scientific, RFXSensor, RFXMeter.
- Receiving of 310MHz X10 sensors and remotes.
- Receiving of 315MHz Visonic security sensors.
- Control of a 310MHz X10 alarm panel .
When you have decided what to receive and/or control you make a selection which interface you want to use. This can be USB, LAN or WLAN. The selection depends for the biggest part on the location where you have to install the interface and where the PC is installed. The best location for the interface is that location where all devices are within range of the receiver/transmitter. Normally this is in the center of all devices to receive/control.
USB doesnt need a power adapter but has the 5 meter limitation of the cable length.
The LAN interface can be located on any location where you have a LAN cable and power available.
The WLAN interface can b location on any location where you have WLAN access and power.
The LAN and WLAN interfaces can also be connected to the Internet which enables you to receive information from a remote location and to control that remote location.
Some attention points:
- The interfaces have 1 or 2 internal ports. An internal port can have 1 transmitter OR 2 receivers connected. For example: an USB interface has 1 internal port thus can never have a receiver and a transmitter installed in the same interface.
- If you want to use a transmitter and a receiver select a Master receiver (this is the 1st receiver in the interface) having the same frequency as the transmitter. European users select the 433.92MHz receiver as Master and US users select the 310MHz receiver as Master. The second receiver can be any type. The reason to use the same frequency is the ability to use the handshake interface between the receiver and transmitter that avoids collisions as much as possible.
