Good mediaplayer

Post by TANE »

I'm looking for a good mediaplayer.

Popcorn looks okay..power consumption in standby is highe..and it's using the old chipset from sigma.
The new popcorn specs are nice,,,price is high and not available at the moment.

Today at Ibood also a nice device...same problem high power consumption in standby 9 watt

Xtreamer chipset is one of the best
powerconsumption is very low.
only disatvantage is the noisy fan.

any advice?

I'm very satisfied with my Tvix 6500 from Divco. This device has a fan but it is only necessary to use the fan in case you use an internal disc, which i have chosen not to use. I'm using this device in combination with a NAS for streaming audio and video. As with all media players, not everything works perfect but Divco brings out new firmware reguraly.

Last week i read that Divco is soon going to release a new media player, the Tvix 6600. The 6600 will have the new Realtek chipset.

Some links:

Thanks for the info..
Is indeed one of the best players
Can also play ripped blu-ray movies.
standby usage is about 3 watt if the info in CT is correct.
there is no need for internal disk of the network speeds is 1000m ..:)

6600 is going in production end of September available...November??..:(

if i want a new mediaplayer, i think i would go for a simple linux box, and put xbmc or boxee on it. they just hold so much more info which is nice, also both boxee and xbmc have a iphone client to control it ;) (very sweet geek factor) given the right development, it might even be possible to show the camera's on the t.v. when the doorbell rings..

I Just got WD TV (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/wdtv/).
It plays any format you can imagine, it's Full HD 1080p and plays very nice.

The downside is:

1. No network support ( although you can flash a custom firmware with network support - it's Linux based)
2. only connect to hdmi or rca.
3. No internal disk (connects to external USB)

other then that, sweet little box and very powerfull and SILENCE.

PC based systems need lot of power for processing full HD
CPU an Video
than you will need lot of customization with codes.
I'm sure the xtreamer will do better job than most PC's/MAC based system for just 120 euro
The next version of the WD TV looks promising.

The winners are at the moment
Tvix 6500/6600
Popcorn 200c

I use the Xtreamer.

It's cheap (99), small, low power, and can play almost anything.

It's not the best music or photo player, but that's not what I use it for.

you can't compare both product's
In the Dune there is build in Blu-ray player
1 GB network
More memory
It's more high end device

Try to playing blu-ray iso file's on the xtreamer..It will play but not what you want to see
4 xtreamers will cost you 480 euro

What i don't like about the xtreamer is the noisy fan.
