Qees Ring (S) and homeseer

Post by talisman »

So I've been playing around with my z-wave devices (4 ACT dimmers, a duwi plugin switch, a siren and smoke detector) and all went into Homeseer without many issues. So finally I came to adding the qees ring (S) which I want to use to set some states, which I then want to use as conditions for events in homeseer (i.e. I'm home, leaving home, going to sleep etc).

So I figured, first I would add the qees device to my controller (aeon z-stick) which also went fine. Then come the issues: when I imported the device into it showed up as a generic controller, a battery status entry and a scene controller conf entry (which HS doesn't seem to support?)
I figured this was wrong, and instead of adding the device to the Z-stick and importing I figured I would add it via HS directly.
So then I noticed there were no instructions on how to exclude the qees ring directly from the controller (using the include method doesn't do anything) - if I used the send Node info command on the qees ring the Z-stick did respon, but it was still not excluded
So then I decided to do this via the HS remove node option - but in the same menu it seems to add it again after removing it? :
DONE - Remove Node Operation is Complete.

Done. Checking for corresponding devices in HomeSeer to be removed...

Reloading (importing) node information from the controller...
The Z-Wave network has 8 nodes.

I've tried resetting the qees ring, removing and re-adding it various different ways, but whatever I do it stays registered on the controller (the number of nodes never changes from 8), and now it won't even add to HS properly anymore as it did the first time I imported it - it just registers as a generic controller, without the previous 2 entries I had about battery and scene config and rescanning it just gives an error.

How do I remove the qees ring from the Aeon z-stick? and how do I add it to HS properly so I can use the individual buttons to drive events (I do not want to associate the qees ring directly to the other z-wave devices as I want to drive other things as well?)

Hi Elco.

I don't know anything about HomeSeer.

But Vera use the Aeon stick.

To remove QEES ring from Aeon stick I press and hold down the button for approximately 3 seconds. (The LED will transition from blinking slowly to blinking fast.) - then I press 3 times service on QEES ring.

I have done that a lot of times with Vera. No problems.

Good luck with the HomeSeer part. :-)

Hi Morten,

Ok so it turns out the Qees ring is quite specific about timing the presses - when I press the qees ring 3 times, it starts blinking fast in successions of 3, and then turns red briefly and then green, together with the supposed 3 second "LED on" of the z-stick (though it seems more like 2 seconds to me)

However, both homeseer and Z-tool still insist the controller has 8 nodes stored- What's weirder - I can do the preceding remove node step multiple times as well - so I don't think it is actually removing the qees ring properly, and the software is probably correct?)

Right now I don't even know who/what is causing the problem, either the qees ring or the z-stick (though I am assuming it is me  )

I think I might try doing a factory reset on the controller?

Hi Elco.

Your ring blinks as if all is OK. I think the rings "feels" removed.

If your Aeon stick is Model: DSA02203-ZWEU there is a firmware upgrade here: http://www.aeon-labs.com/Z-Stick_EU_502P3_091214.exe" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Maybe that will help?

Otherwise I think a reset of the stick might be at good idea. There is a reset button at the back.

I've updated the firmware, but it didn't fix the issue. So I reset the controller, which allowed me to start with a clean slate (luckily it's a relatively quick job to re-add all the devices.

I did however hold out on adding the Qees ring untill someone can shed some light on the correct procedure - I don't really want to do it all again if I can prevent it :)

I suppose what I was expecting was something like the qees ring to appear as a root device, with a addition battery entry, and maybe entries for the 4 switches?

Cheers,
Elco
