All connections over IP
All connections over IP
My aim is to connect all periphials over ip in so that there is no physical USB or RS232 connection attached to the Homeseer system. So far i found various devices on the internet and i was wondering about experiences from others.
For USB i used to have the belkin solution but i was able to sell it and now i have ordered the NetUSB400i. For RS232 i'm still not sure which one to choose.
btw my own flaky network connection was probably due to the enabled energy saving option of the NIC resulting in disconnections of the belkin....
I will add comment to the start post from other user so we will have a sort of overview BUT i will try to add only hands on experiences!!

Re: All connections over IP
I like Vscom
I have a VSCOM 8 x RS232 to USB for nearby stuff
And I just bought a 8 x RS232 to TCPIP on ebay thanks to you
for 100 dollar incl shipping
I now have 2 x 2 x RS232 to TCPIP from AXIS I will replace these with the VSCOM.
VSCOM is a good product, also very low on power consumption!
I Dont like the USB to TCPIP yet, they have a lot of troubles...
There are some more topics about these devices on the forum
Regards Pieter

Re: All connections over IP
Problem is when your peripheral is an usb one. Nice the 8-rs232 over tcp ! what are the 8 (!) serial devices connected? Ciao , Lorenzo
Re: All connections over IP
@bwired. You have the IP version, right
@drmacchi. That's why i added also USB over IP devices. I've ordered the netusb400i device, see how it works.

Re: All connections over IP
What's wrong with the Belkin when you are using Windows. I use the Belkin for USB as well as RS232 devices and have no problems with it. The only downside is that there is no driver for Linux. All my USB and serial devices are IP enabled using the Belkin.
Rene.
Re: All connections over IP
no support for W7 and w2k3. Did not manage to get a stable connection to vmware so i decided to try another one. If it works for you it's a good device.

Re: All connections over IP
I have multiple rs232 to ip devices (AXIS 2 x rs232 ports, for sale soon
)
I will replace the axis with 8 x RS232 to IP VSCOM in the fusebox closet.
Btw: I don't use any drivers for this device, I connect directly on IP base from the Bwired software. (I hate all those drivers )
Connected to my server I use the 8 x RS232 to USB VSCOM, this is for devices I need to see like weatherstation etc.
I Still like RS232 the best
CTX35
Davis Weatherstation
Small LEDbar in front of camera
SONY FCB-IX47P 1/4 18x zoom CCD Camera
LEDbar
SONY EVI-D70 Front camera
SONY EVI-D31 Back camera
1-Wire
Chromoflex Led Controllers
Nefit HVAC interface
Siemens GSM Module
AXIS 241Q
Velleman Velbus
Belkin No Break
Visonic receiver
I got the Belkin working (see other topic) on my Windows 2003 server, but lots of drivers and software are required and little control over it. So I dont like it at all!
@Edwin: let us know how the VSCOM netusb400i works out!

Re: All connections over IP
Pieter,
Does the VSCOM support multiple TCP connections to a single port? Very welcome feature for development.
Then i would buy one right away
I have 2 x Sollae EZL-200F which support max 8 concurrent TCP connections.
Those devices work flawlessly BTW, never any problem.
Same good performance here with the EZL-400S, 4 x RS232.
There's also a CSE-H20 with 2 x RS-232 for the same price. No experience.
Using drivers is something i always try to avoid too; using direct TCP connections is much more flexible. But it mostly depends on the software you're using if you can live without them...

Re: All connections over IP
Hi, I am rather new to these devices so i have a a question about them.
I have a media center (JBL) that has an USB input on the side. If i stick in a USB stick i can play MP3's and movies from it and show pictures. What i really would like to doe is to connect my network via USB to it so i can connect to my music collection that i have on my server. I've tried this with an old 3com ethernet to USB adapter but no success. I also tried using a harddisk in an USB caddy but that also don't trigger the media device to see the drive. Only a real USB stick will work.
So my question is, is there a possibilities to do this and ifyes, what device will give me to most change of success?

Re: All connections over IP
Can you be more specific on the model of the Media Center as when I have a look at the JBL Website I can't find any media Center, just a Multi room system.
Regards, Maarten.
