ELV HS485 System

Does anybody knows something about ELV HS485 home automation system? All I know is that it's RS485 based system and that Germans don't like to translate to English...

What protocol it uses? Is it open (or at least known) or it's closed and proprietary (link to some documentation in English is more than welcome)? Does the devices have two-way communication? For example can I read the status of the dimmer or roller position or the actuators can only receive commands?

Is it a good technology? What are PROs and CONs?
Right now I'm evaluating some RS485 EnOcean modules produced by Eltako, but they can't speak, they only listen for commands. So I can't read their statuses out of the box... and this drives me crazy!

It looks like it is sold also by Conrad (http://www.conrad.de) as HomeMatic RS485 (I would always crosscheck ELV and Conrad). Just search for RS485 and you will find it. I checked and they have more inforamation available in English. You can also try their UK site (http://www.conrad.co.uk), but when I remember correctly then only German one had wide shipping options. Their billing system for international sales is quite notable - make an order and wait, they will send you the invoice finally, that you can pay by bank transfer, so be aware.

Does ELV HS485 and HomeMatic RS485 are the same? What protocol they use? I see for the HomeMatic RS485 system they say the protocol is "HomeMatic Wired", however I can't find any documentation about it.

P.S. How can be the modules configured and programmed? I read on the Conrad shop something about software called "HomeMati-centre". However Google doesn't know anything about it

When you compare the pictures then they look prety much the same (check the logos). So I *belive* that they are the same. But I do not know anything more about it. When you are seriously interested then you can contact Conrad or ELV by email or phone (think Skype) and ask more about it. This is how I would do this.
