KNX project for existing home

Post by jurk »

I'm planning a KNX project for my new home.
The goal is to control light, wall outlets, blinds and shutters by local flush mounted switches and via remote (mobile) devices via internet (homeserver).

I've already replaced the existing wall sockets by new ones of the brand Kaiser.
These have extra place for flush mounted actors.
I don't have additional pipes for separated KNX signal lines towards my central metering cabinet.

Ideally I want to control every device over powerline, since it's doesn't require additional wiring.
However there aren't many suppliers that delivery KNX over powerline (only ABB as far as my research goes).

The other option is wireless KNX, there are a number of manufactures that deliver flush mounted sensors and actors.
I curious to find out if this would be an option.
My main concerns are:
- Can you mix wireless KNX actors/sensors of different manufactures?
- Is this a stable solution for a complete home?
- I saw that these wireless KNX gateways only allow for uni-directional communication, can you still retrieve status information for e.g. blinds (position)

The last option (probably the most stable) would be TP KNX sensors/actors, however I need to combine EIB signal lines with my power lines.
This is not recommended/allowed by NEN1010 guidelines.

My last question is related to mixing buscouplers (BCU) and application modules of different manufactures.
The KNX specification describes the PEI interface and corresponding PEI-types, however there's little information from manufactures (only Becker describes the PEI type).

Regarding wireless.
Every time I experience testing it in a real installation, there are always problems. It's not so stable has they advertise it. It's safe because the signal doesn't get mixed with other things, but many times you press the button and nothing happens... 90% of the times it works great, but what to do with the other 10%?
I only used a single brand installation.

If you need a control software after the construction finished I suggest you this one: http://www.ligo.tv

Good luck.
