About ready to start. Need some advice

Post by Noel »

Okay,

Today I've had a talk to one of the Xanura dealers here in Holland, and he asked me what I want to start with.

Basically I want to start with an easy setup like remotely turn all the light on/off on the main floor, and be able dim one of them. (I will be expanding the setup later)

I would also like to be able to control the setup with a small "RF / IR" remote controller, and be able to hookup a computer to program some stuff.

Could someone here please let me know what "unit's I'll be needing to:
1: turn light on/off
2: dim light
3: RF (or is it IR?) unit
4: unit to program and read data with a PC

One more thing. The main power line is a 3 phase one, so the dealer told me that I need 3 filters.
Is this correct?

Thank you again for any info.

PS. I will be installing the stuff myself (I'm okay with electronics)

About the filter, thats correct. Also check out http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=751 for the new models too.

Also depends on how much money you are willing to spend, otherwise you could just get a homecontrol box. Which is easy way out. If you want to play yourself you would be looking at "homeseer"

For info on the xanura, you can check http://files.binkey.nl/Manuals/Xanura/Dutch/ which holds most of the manuals in 1 dir. I would suggest reading the "algemeen" to get a feeling.

Check out the new modules like snelvuur told you. These modules have now multiple functions. For a 3 fase powerline installation it's not sure that you benefit from the 3 filters. What you definitely need is a (1) Phasecoupler (fasekoppelaar Type FKK) which sends the Xanura (X10) signal over the different powerlines. The filters are only necessary to keep other X10 signals away from your powerline and filter noise if it available. So you might need it, but the FKK you need for sure. I have a FKK and no filters and working good! For controlling it all depends on your needs, If you want to do things yourself then the CTX35 or the new PMIX35 would be a good option. Otherwise a Homecontrol Box if you want only standard stuff and the use of a fully handled portal.

Thank you for the presentation about Domotica today.

I've learned a lot of it, and I'm now 100% convinced that this is going to be a new hobby for me :-)

If I get stuck (what I will for sure), I'll ping you (or any other expert here) for more help.

Okay, I've made my wish list to get me going.

The current situation:
I have three phases in the house,
Phase one: I will be using for the "heavy" kitchen stuff (like dishwasher, cooker etc. etc.)
Phase two: Will be used for the laundry applications.
Phase three: I'll be using for all the stuff that I would like to control.

What I want to do:
Basically control 'all' lights (for now) by remote control, events (created by Homeseer), and some motion detection.
(I will be adding more things later)

This is a list of what I'm about to get for now:

1 x SFX40 sperfilter (some say I do not use it, but just to be sure all will work okay I will)
1 x RFIX35 RF interface
1 x ABX1 universal remote
1 x CTX35 data interface
1 x license for Homeseer (will order it in the US)
lot's of SAIX12
lot's of DAIX12
3 x motion detectors (MS13A ?)

Before I make this order I would like to ask the experts here if the list looks okay, or if I'm missing needed things.

I would kill the rfix35 rf interface, and go for a rfxcom which can receive those signals too, and you get more extra for it back too. Costs more though, but it will allow you to expand more (temperature readings/klik aan klik uit/sending x10/visionic/etc)

my suggestion will be.
skip SFX40, RFIX35, ABX1
go for a good remote like the TSU9600 or the Harmony 895
For the Harmony you need IR transceiver
IRtrans is the best solution for this. (I have the USB version and going to replace it with the LAN version)

For the TSU9600 you can use the freeware plugin Prontronic or the plugin from Baryy Gorden.

Xanura RFIX35 can handle secure RF, so nobody can control your devices from outside :-)

Thank you all for the reply <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">kill the rfix35 rf interface, and go for a rfxcom<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> The rfxcom does look nice, and I love to have the extra options that you suggest. <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">temperature readings/klik aan klik uit/sending x10/visionic/etc<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote"> What temperature sensor do I need to make the readings? <blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">skip SFX40, RFIX35, ABX1

Later when I progress in the Domotica ranking order (I'm now a newbie) I will change this to a better remote unit :-)

It's good that you mention IR transceiver. I forgot to put this on my wish list.
Looking at the IRIX34, it shows me that this is a receiver only.

What IR transceiver do you suggest?
